It's been a month since Sziget and I'm still not over it. This was my first festival and I saw a few of my favourite musicians for the first time live and it was amazing!
What is Sziget Festival I hear you ask?
It's one of the largest music and cultural festivals in Europe. It is held every August in northern Budapest, Hungary.
I wanted to take as many photos as I could, but as you may know it's tricky to charge your camera batteries at a festival and I didn't have any spare ones so the photos I took are mainly of performances on the Pop-Rock Main Stage and A38 Stage.
I had two compact/point&shoot camers with me: Nikon Coolpix S5100 and Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W320 (which are kind of shit, I know) because I didn't want to take my DSLR with me (I was afraid I would damage it).
As you would expect the photos are not high quality but I must say they turned out pretty nice.
The first day of the festival (11th August) was hectic and kind of stressful, it was hot and everything was sticky and I was sleepy because I couldn't sleep at night (I was so excited and nervous I slept for only 3 maybe 4 hours - I'm always nervous when I go to new places) so naturally I was grumpy but I managed to pull myself together.
After a 5 hour car ride we (my sister and I) finally arrived at the Island of freedom and checked in and got our bracelets and all that - at the entrance the security searched through our luggage and took a jar of peanut butter because it was made of glass...really? Like I would go and smash someone's head open with a jar of peanut butter or what? C'mon there was no need for taking it away. Luckily we had another (plastic) jar of some kind of 'fake Nutella' and they didn't took this one...I would be really pissed off if they would, though. >.<
We got trough the security and then we had to find our friends, who arrived earlier and secured a place for our tent. After half an hour search we found each other and went to their camping spot. Then we build our tent and got ready to go to the main stage.
We arrived 30 minutes before the gig started - fo course I wanted to be as near as possible because I'm going to see my number one favourite band - The 1975. But there were already people there (from two previous gigs) so we managed to stand in the second row (facing the 'catwalk' they build in the middle - the audience was divided in two parts by a barrier, we were standing on the left side).
There were 15 minutes left until the gig started (here is the part when all starts to get a bit emotional...sorry about that hehe) and as I was watching the technicians preparing the gear and instuments - George's drums and their The 1975 backround (or what is it called) I started to feel so emotional and my eyes started to water (like right now when I'm writing this) because this band means so much to me. When they came on stage I couldn't help it and I just stood there looking at them with tears running down my face, thinking 'Is this real? They're actually real people?' (If you know the feeling when you see your favourtie band for the first time live, you know exactly what I'm talking about.) My sister laughed at me but I know I wasn't the only one crying.
Here are some of the photos I took. (You can enlarge photos by clicking on them.)

If you want to see more of The 1975 photos from Sziget Festival take a look at my photography tumblr - MARUGRAPHY
At the end of their set, George Daniel threw his drumsticks in the crowd and the lucky girl next to me caught one. I asked if I could take a photo of her holding the drumstick and she happily agreed. (I also touched the drumstick...hehe...well that sounds weird, sorry haha).

The 1975 were fantastic and it was beautiful. Weirdly I don't remember what we did afterwards but I think we went for a walk to explore the festival. When we came back to our tent we were so tired from the whole day that we wanted to go to sleep but we figured it is impossible because the music was blasting from everywhere, the floor was literally vibrating - our friends choose the camping spot right in front of Magic Mirror and Colosseum (both having parties until 7am). So we decided to move our tent in the middle of the night - our friend helped (thank you Matze, that was really nice of you because you probably just wanted to go to sleep and then we showed up with grumpy faces but you helped us anyway) and when we were carrying the tent up the road some drunk Italian guy came and asked if he could help us (and I accepted the help). We moved our tent and luggage on a camping spot not very far away from our friends - it was alright because the music wasn't so loud and you could acutally sleep - with earplugs of course.
Then we thought we could finally get some sleep but as we were moving the tent I found an iPhone 5 lying in the grass and we decided we should find the owner. So our friend called the first number on this lost phone and talked to a firend of the guy who lost the phone (that sounds really complicated hah). After a while we met up with this guy and his friends and he was so happy and grateful - he didn't know how to thank us so he gave us 3000 HUF which is around 10 EUR (this is 12 USD? I don't know, correct me if I'm wrong) which is like nothing really (everything was kind of expensive there) - he probably thought it was a lot because they were from Germany and they use euros like we do and if you see a banknote for 3000-something it looks a lot but is actually not. But let's forget the money, the point of all this was, to return the lost phone to the owner and make him happy. Am I right or am I right? ^-^
And I should probably mention that my sister and I were in our PJs, without make-up or anything and those German guys were really good looking and I felt really odd afterwards...thank god it was dark outside haha.
Aaand after all that we finally went to sleep. We were exhausted...but in a good way.
